South Jersey · electric and gas

How the comparison works

Use the fuel dropdown at the top of the site to switch between electric (the default) and natural gas. On electric, the board covers PSE&G 08053 (Marlton) and Atlantic City Electric 08226 (Ocean City). On gas, the same ZIPs map to PSE&G Gas and South Jersey Gas. Delivery stays with the utility either way.

For PSE&G electric, Rateboard pulls the official Price to Compare PDF (energy + listed transmission, including New Jersey SUT) and the quarterly BGS reconciliation charge (Sheet 81), which the tariff combines with BGS energy for billing. The current summer RS energy charge (effective July 15, 2026) is 12.6743¢/kWh for the first 600 kWh and 13.6239¢ over 600 — 12.81¢ blended at 700 kWh. Transmission is 6.878¢ including SUT. Reconciliation is $0.000000 this quarter (June–August 2026). Together that’s about 19.69¢/kWh — the ~20¢ Price to Compare on a PSE&G bill. Transmission stays on the PSE&G bill if you switch, so a cheaper generation sticker is ranked all-in (posted rate + remaining transmission). Reconciliation is BGS-only.

For Atlantic City Electric, the BPU Price to Compare is generation plus transmission — the supply ¢ a third-party rate replaces directly. ACE’s site is a login wall, so the board uses the published residential PTC (currently 16.87¢/kWh through November 30, 2026). Savings are (PTC − posted supplier ¢) × kWh, minus any monthly fee. A 14.25¢ plan versus 16.87¢ saves 2.62¢/kWh before fees.

For natural gas, a third-party ¢/therm replaces the utility’s Basic Gas Supply Service (BGSS) Price to Compare directly — same idea as ACE electric. PSE&G Gas’s official BGSS-RSG commodity (August 1, 2026) is $0.363440/therm (36.344¢) including tax. South Jersey Gas’s published PTC is $0.58746/therm (58.746¢). Rankings use monthly supply cost at your therms (default 80). A 1-month teaser under the PTC is not the cheapest lasting verdict. Most PSE&G Gas third-party offers sit well above 36.344¢, so staying on BGSS usually wins. On South Jersey Gas, a 6-month CleanSky plan at 57.9¢ can edge the 58.746¢ PTC.

Licensed electric names come from NJ PowerSwitch. Residents Energy posts a public ResiSURE table for PSEG and ACE electric and for PSEG and SJG gas. Major Energy and NextEra Energy Services post ¢/kWh on their enrollment shops for ZIP 08053 and 08226. Other suppliers are pulled from the NJ Energy Ratings marketplace for Marlton and Ocean City (electric and gas). Filter by term: month-to-month, 4–6, 9–12, or 18+. Rankings use monthly supply cost (rate × usage + any monthly fee), so a cheap sticker rate with a $9.99 fee can lose to a slightly higher no-fee plan.

A lower sticker rate only saves money if it beats that utility’s Price to Compare after monthly fees. Variable plans can jump the month after you enroll. Confirm the contract before you switch.
